Sugar Rush Alert! Sugar – the quick pick me up that many of us turn to when we need to wake up or crave a little boost! Did you know consuming too much sugar can cause weight gain, damage to internal organs, premature aging and the risk of disease? I find it amazing how many grams of sugar are hiding away in commonly eaten items, and very few are informed on this information. Some quick stats: An 8 ounce of skim milk is equivalent to four Starburst candies and both rack up 11 grams of sugar. There are 28 grams of sugar in 2.5 Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a grande iced latte flavored from Starbucks. There is a whopping 65 grams of sugar in a 20 ounce bottle of Coke, which is equivalent to five little Debbie Swiss rolls! To top it off 51 grams of sugar in Arizona Green tea which is equivalent to 20 Hershey kisses. (CNN.com) To maintain a healthy heart, the average woman should be consuming 25 grams or less a day. A great alternative for these pesky sugars would be maple syrup, coconut sugar, and date sugar. Be sure to be mindful to how much sugar you consume daily. You will notice a change in exercise levels, appetite, and mental health.
