Dr. Chughtai is an expert on female health and has been performing vaginal rejuvenation procedures in Chicago for over 15 years.  She weighs in on her 3 reasons why she prefers non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation.

What Actually is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is any time you rejuvenate the female genitourinary area. As women get older, what tends to happen is more laxity and urinary incontinence. This can happen with age, childbirth, and with a variety of other causes. Also, there can be external changes with the look of the female genitalia, that patients may want to improve at any age.

1. It’s Non-Surgical

Surgical approaches to female rejuvenation was the standard for many years. The vagina could be tightened with surgery. Foreign objects such as mesh and slings would be used to help with urinary incontinence. In addition, patients could have their outside genitalia altered by changing the labia majora and minora. This required parts of the labia to be removed during surgery.

During the non-surgical approach Dr. Chughtai uses a bipolar radiofrequency device called Votiva. The noninvasive procedure helps increase blood flow, build collagen and can also have a tightening effect. A minimum of 3 sessions are recommended at least every 4 weeks apart and maintenance every 6-12 months. There is minimal to no downtime.

2. It increases vaginal sensitivity

The Votiva process addresses the inner and outer tissues of the vaginal area using radiofrequency energy. This helps the vagina build new collagen, improves blood flow to the area which in turn help to support the nerve endings. Therefore improving vaginal sensitivity which can improve sexual pleasure.
We can also inject PRP which is platelet rich plasma derived from a patient’s own blood. PRP has many different growth factors and when injected back into the female genital area it can not only help with stress urinary incontinence by helping the supporting structures in the pelvis, but can increase sensitivity and orgasm.

3. Fast Recovery

After having Votiva you can return to your normal daily activities right after the procedure. Vaginal rest is recommended for 2 days; meaning no intercourse, hot baths and anything placed in the vagina.

Keep in mind that vaginal rejuvenation will require different techniques and approaches for each woman. Not only is Dr. Chughtai an expert in female rejuvenation, she has had the procedure herself so she can speak to its effectiveness and relate to almost every woman coming in. While some patients may have been reluctant to talk about issues involving this delicate area, Dr. Chughtai’s expertise at our Chicago office helps women become more confident in their bodies and learn to embrace them again.
